Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 216 pages (complete). There has often been something 'other' about the Duchesses of Bedford. Mary Bedford was no different. She was a determined and vocal supporter of the suffragette movement. In later life she became an aviator of note in a very male world. She broke several long-haul records by flying to Karachi and back in eight days and also to Cape Town in 100 hours. She died when her plane crashed in the North Sea. Her body was never recovered. This biography was assembled by her grandson, the 13th Duke. John Bedford (who also had something 'other' in his own right!) had a particularly bad relationship with the 11th Duke (Mary's husband) and the 12th Duke (her son). However, he seems to have been fond of his grandmother. The dustjacket is considerably worn and torn and is in very poor condition. The board cover is tidy with little wear. There are some shelving marks along the trims. The papertrims are lightly foxed. The contents are relaxed, comfortable, confident, clear, clean and secure against the binding. fk.
