Foi Oficial do Exército Português, dentre outros cargos que lhe foram atribuídos, desempenhou o de governador da Huíla (Angola) e o de director da Emissora Nacional de Radiodifusão. Organizou comemorações e exposições culturais, de que se destacam o Cortejo do Mundo Português e a Exposição Colonial, em 1934, no Porto. Em Angola, efectuou o primeiro reconhecimento do Cuando, uma viagem de cerca de mil quilómetros em território desconhecido. Escritor, dramaturgo e jornalista foi contemplado três vezes com o Prémio de Literatura Colonial da Agência Geral das Colónias. Os temas ultramarinos percorrem toda a sua obra literária.
