The plot of this work centres around the murder of a British peer, and was published under the title of 'Death of a Peer' in the United States. The British title is a reference to the food poisoning to which Henry I succumbed to.Ngaio Marsh (1895-1982) was a New Zealand mystery writer and theatre director, often known as one of the 'Queens of Crime' alongside Agatha Christie.
