Internally clean. $85. * As a renowned scholar of ancient and biblical law, Daube analyzes scriptural texts to reveal ancient legal and religious concepts. Daube distinguishes between knowledge as simple information and knowledge as profound, transformative insight. He also discusses when a lack of information or an error might excuse a transgression. He explores the special problems that arise from an unwitting or sudden transgression of the sacred sphere. Daube's analysis, which draws on his expertise in Roman, Jewish, and Christian texts, is significant for its ecumenical perspective and its illumination of the connections between biblical law and later traditions.
