Extremities worn, and fly leaves browned; otherwise a very good clean ex-library copy with class no. on spine and neat label on front pastedown. Illustrated by facsimiles or reprints of original title pages and by text figures. Decorated by head and tailpiece vignettes, by initials and by title page device. The contents of this selection of sixteen Stuart Tracts in the English Garner series, include original texts on the accession of James I, some maritime narratives, continental travels and campaigns (France and Flanders, 1657-58), the northern campaigns of Thomas Lord Fairfax in the the Civil War, and the arrival of Charles II in England in 1660. These texts were reprinted from the eight volumes of the English Garner, 1877-90, by Professor Edward Arber (1836-1912). Charles Harding Firth (1857-1936) was born in Sheffield and educated at Oxford, serving as Regius Professor of Modern History, 1904-25.
