FIRST EDITION, 45 figures to the text, some on plates, further tables and diagrams, occasional light spotting, pp. xi, 115, crown 8vo, original blue-grey cloth, lettered in black to upper board and backstrip, a touch of fading to extremities of cloth, a little dink to tail of upper board, dustjacket- with some faint dustsoiling to backstrip and rear panels, a little chipped and nicked at extremities, short closed tear at head of front panel, near to whcih a small mark, very good. Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To H.R. Beken, Eric N. Simons, 16.3.38'. A book aimed at 'Mr. Everyman who has to do with steel' (Preface); Simons worked for the Sheffield steel-maker Edgar Allen, editing their newsletter - with Dr Gregory brought in as a collaborator to provide a strengthening surface of technical knowledge.
