Inscribed by the author on the flyleaf: 'To H.R. Beken, Eric N. Simons, 16.3.38'. A book aimed at 'Mr. Everyman who has to do with steel' (Preface); Simons worked for the Sheffield steel-maker Edgar Allen, editing their newsletter - with Dr Gregory brought in as a collaborator to provide a strengthening surface of technical knowledge.
