This book details the structure and relationships of Dipnorhynchus sussmilchi, a primitive lungfish from the early Devonian period, based on the examination of acid-prepared, uncrushed specimens. Dipnorhynchus sussmilchi bore many similarities to the Crossopterygii, a group of fish from which scientists believe terrestrial vertebrates ultimately evolved. Biological and anatomical descriptions of the skull roof, jaw structure, and various scales of the Dipnorhynchus sussmilchi are included in the book, along with comparative analyses of other Paleozoic lungfish such as Dipterus and Melanognathus. The discoveries presented within this book provide key insights into the evolutionary history of lungfish and their significance in the evolution of terrestrial vertebrates.
