Condition: Good. No Jacket; 857 pages. During two weeks in June-July 1966, 106 physicists from thirty-eight countries met in ERICE to attend the fourth course of the International School of Physics "Ettore Majorana", the proceedings of which are contained in this book. The programme of the School was influenced by the successes of the current-algebra approach to particle physics, by the new revival of the Regge-pole application to high-energy interactions, by the undetectability but nevertheless always underlying presence of those objects called "quarks", and by the endless finding of new baryonic, mesonic, strange and non-strange resonances. All these aspects of our present-day problems in elementary particle physics, together with some related experimental investigations, were taught and discussed in ERICE. I hope the reader will enjoy the book as much as the students enjoyed attending the lectures and the discussions. Thanks to the work of the scientific secretaries the discussions have been reproduced as faithfully as possible.
