Hardbound. Condition: Good. Book Club Edition. Description: Dust jacket art by Evelyn Copelman. American slang, school and Aunt Debra were just a few of the things seventeen year old Katherine Norman had to adjust to in San Francisco. In Europe, school had always meant hard work and home had always meant love. But home life in America with Aunt Debra was so different from the carefree adventurous life Katherine had shared with her father in Europe. Aunt Debra was a stranger. And school was no better. The first friendly person she met was Bob Macdonald, but he was so involved in his newspaper that he had little time for her. Then Katherine was swept up into 'The Crowd', who had plenty of time for they had no interest in the future. Katherine became torn between enjoying being with the popular crowd, and wanting to become closer to Bob. But then the aimless, drifting current she had been floating on turned into shoals and rapids. She discovered she could indeed be a stranger in the middle of a crowd. She also discovered new feelings whenever Bob was around. With this new awareness came the realization of the richly warm human being in her Aunt Debra. Then she was no longer a stranger -- not to Bob, not to her aunt, and most important -- not to her own self. Iris Noble is also the author of Under Turtle Mountain, One Golden Summer, as well as a number of nonfiction books.
