Binding is original. 40 engraved plates of coastal scenes, including the engraved title page and frontispiece. All of the plates have their original tissue guards present. 128 pages. Binding is good and sturdy; though the binding is split at several points, the stitches are still strong. With yellow endpapers, discolored around the edges with some chipping at the corners. Several other pages, especially at the beginning and end of the book, have chips and small tears on the edges as well. The gutters of both endpapers are torn. Foxing throughout, including on the plates, and there is light toning due to the age of the volume. The names of contemporary owners are written in ink on the front free endpaper. There is also an older inscription on the following page: U.H.S. to Miss Margaret A. Mason, Sept. 20th 1841. Clarkson Stanfield (1793-1867) was a prominent English marine painter. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1820 to his death, with few interruptions. He was also a founding member of the Society of British Artists.
