Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+ dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Ruth Collet (illustrator). 1st U.K. edition. [nice tight copy with some foxing on the top edge of the text block but no other significant wear; the jacket is lightly edgeworn and a bit soiled, with some teensy bits of paper loss from several corners]. McCullers's second play, about "torn and twisted family relationships in rural New York State," more specifically a married woman's "discovery (in the process of discovering herself) that sexual passion, which had held her marriage together previously, is not enough." The play was a bit of a flop on Broadway, running just 45 performances in late 1957. Per Wikipedia, McCullers drew upon her own traumatic experiences to inform the play, including her own suicide attempt in 1948 and the successful suicide of her husband in 1953.
