His moral outrage regarding the transportation of convicts to Australia led to him chairing a parliamentary select committee to investigate the issue. The inquiry amassed a great deal of evidence besmirching the conditions of the penal colonies, with Molesworth's resulting report contributing to the phasing out of the practice, which finally ceased in 1853. John Davies Enys (1837-1912), British naturalist who's career was primarily devoted to the discovery and categorisation of native species of Lepidoptera and pteridophytes.
