Published by Addison C. Getchell, Boston, 1893
Seller: Cleveland Book Company, ABAA, Rocky River, OH, U.S.A.
Softcover. Condition: Very good. Octavo, 71pp. A very good copy in the publisher's printed wraps, with some minor chips and stains to the wraps, else clean and sound. A wonderful type specimen book from this Boston printer, with 36pp. of "book type" specimens (examples of fully printed pages of books in various identified typefaces and sizes). Pp. [37]-71 consist of "job type" specimens, with all sorts of both plain and elaborate type designs, both large and small. The Getchell firm was a family operation, and traded under several names during the second half of the 19th century. This specimen book gives a wonderful overview of their abilities, as well as a sense of the trend in type design during this period. Scarce; the lone speratately listed holding we found in OCLC is retained by the Newberry Library.
