This document records a notice from F. Baring of the Commissioners of Customs at Treasury Chambers on 17 January January, 1837. Baring informs the Custom House, London, that "my Lords have, in communication with the Lords of the Admiralty, been pleased to offer certain Bounties to Vessels which may proceed to the assistance of the missing Whalers viz. the Sum of £300 to each of the First Five Vessels which may sail from any Port of England or Scotland carrying an Extra Quantity of Provisions, provided they show by their Log that they make the best of their way across the Atlantic and that they reach the Edge of the Ice to the Southward of 55 Latitude". The notice has been some time extracted from a volume General Customs Orders.
