First edition, first printing. Published by Jonathan Cape in London, 1948. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper is finely illustrated with a bright red '7' motif. There is slight chipping to the top and tail of the spine and some slight rubbing also present. The spine tips are slightly worn and the rear panel with some handling marks. It has been neatly price clipped. The original publishers green cloth boards are without notable wear aside from a slight bump to the bottom of the spine. This copy is free from previous owners ink, aside from a previous owners ink stamp to the front flyleaf in purple ink, named 'Gerald Rosenberg' (possibly the Chicago professor of science and law?). Overall, this is a very good (or better) copy of a scarce title- the only one presently on the market. Written by Dudley Clarke, who features in the recent hit 'SAS: Rogue Heroes'. Tells the very unique story of a (cross-dressing) staff officer who was involved in many secret assignments in the worrying early days of the war. The book is neatly structured, telling what he could of military intelligence in the key early battlegrounds of the war. The author appears in many other books as influential contributor, who was the source of the naming rights to the Special Air Service (SAS) Brigade, long before David Stirling had even thought about forming the team. Made it right through to the end of the war still contributing, and not affected by his habits.
