Complete set of four "Modern Miracle" ink blotters featuring a rocket, a pilot in a high-altitude "Strato-suit," a bathyscaphe for underwater exploration, and the Palomar telescope. The rocket blotter has some edgewear and a shallow crease; the other three show very little wear. All are unused. Bond Bread was a product of General Baking Company and was first produced in Rochester, New York, in 1915. The name comes from the use of the word "bond" as a promise or guarantee of repayment of debt and was intended to signal a guaranteed purity of ingredients, similar to home-made bread. The company advertised heavily using neighborhood signs, print ads, ink blotters, and eventually television commercials and sponsorhips. This attractive set of blotters, which dates from the 1950s, promotes Bond's homogenization process as its own modern miracle.
