Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. First edition. First printing. Hardcover. Very fine in a very fine dust jacket. A pristine unread copy. SIGNED and dated BY AUTHOR on title page in month of publication, May 2009. Comes with mylar cover dust jacket. Publisher's SPIVET card included, the size of a business card. Purchased new and opened only for author signing. Comes with mylar wrapper jacket. Shipped in well padded box. Smoke-free. The author's debut, which follows the exploits of a young man living in Butte, Montana named T.S. Spivet as he travels across the country by train. The book is noteworthy for its unique design; the plot-line is illustrated with images which further the narrative by providing charts, lists, sketches, and maps accompanying each page, mirroring T.S.'s cartographic interests. An oversized book (9.3 by 7.8 inches), the margins of each page have been expanded to include drawings, charts, and lists accompanying the written elements. Each illustration has an explanatory caption that deepens the book's narrative. The majority of the drawings for the book were originally sketched by Larsen himself, subsequently passing them along to artist friend Ben Gibson, who stylistically finished them. Although almost two-thirds of the book's pages are accompanied with a drawing or figure, many completed illustrations were left out of the book due to spacial limitations and the creation of mood departures or jarring interruptions to the story-line flow. Many of the omitted illustrations can be found on the book's website, along with an unpublished epilogue explaining some of the book's mysteries. The book received an especially praiseworthy review from Stephen King, saying: "Here is a book that does the impossible: it combines Mark Twain, Thomas Pynchon, and Little Miss Sunshine. Good novels entertain; great ones come as a gift to the readers who are lucky enough to find them. This book is a treasure.". Signed by Author(s).

Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Good. T.S. Spivet is a genius mapmaker who lives on a ranch in Montana. His father is a silent cowboy and his mother is a scientist who for the last twenty years has been looking for a mythical species of beetle. His brother has gone, his sister seems normal but might not be, and his dog Verywell is going mad. T.S. makes sense of it all by drawing beautiful, meticulous maps kept in innumerable colour-coded notebooks. He is brilliant, and the Smithsonian Institution agrees, though when they award him a major scientific prize they don't suspect for a moment that he is twelve years old. So begins T.S. s life-changing adventure, travelling two thousand miles across America to reach the awards dinner, the secret-society membership and the TV interviews that beckon. But is this what he wants? Do maps and lists explain the world? And why are adults so strange? Cover rubbed and worn; dog-eared. 388 pages.

Slight wear to spine, covers & corners, especially lower right corners. Covers slightly soiled.; The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet by Reif Larsen is a whimsical and poignant novel that blends storytelling with visual art to create a uniquely immersive experience. The story follows Tecumseh Sparrow Spivet, a 12-year-old cartography prodigy who lives on a remote Montana ranch with his eccentric family. Obsessed with mapping the world around himfrom insect behaviour to household choresT.S. secretly submits his work to the Smithsonian Institution, which mistakes him for an adult and awards him a prestigious fellowship. The novel follows T.S. as he sets off alone on a cross-country journey to Washington, D.C., riding freight trains and documenting his adventure with maps, diagrams, and marginalia. Along the way, he reflects on his family, particularly his distant scientist mother, his cowboy father, and the mysterious death of his younger brother.Blending humour, tragedy, and wonder, The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet is both a coming-of-age tale and a meditation on knowledge, belonging, and the way we make sense of the world. Its playful designwith illustrations, annotations, and scientific sketchesmakes it as much a visual journey as a literary one.
