I once made a trip to Dublin just to show my glass artist wife Harry's fine stain glass works, in a tea shop no less. Photos on request.

Mild dampstaining to cover cloth along upper front joint and upper spine panel, which is also a bit tanned, cloth a bit faded and showing small area of discoloration on lower front cover. Former owner signature on upper front fixed endsheet, otherwise unmarked. 1st thus. xxxi,219 pp., illus. w/ 11 b&w plates by Clarke with captioned guards, also vignettes in text. Printed on hand-made paper. Raised bands and gilt design on spine. Some rubbing to hinges, edges, and tips. Light, foxing to endpapers, fly leafs, copyright page. Paper clip rust stain on flyleaf. Paper clip had been holding a 3 X 5 card with a book description from the Stewart Kidd Department of Old and Rare Books in Cincinnati, OH. Interior pages are clean. 10 full page black and white engraved plates by Harry Clarke.

Tiny smudge at the outer marginal edge of the frontispiece; very slight creasing at the extremities of the spine; a fine copy in a fine jacket. Very slight use to the slipcase at extremities.

Enigmatic imagery of odd eminating priest(ess) character w/conehead wear, viper wrapping around at feet; similar feminine figure with two entwined forked-tongue vermin. Patterned illustrated endpapers by Clarke in maroon. Antiquarian printed bookpate at half-title for Margaret Gimlin; intriguing montage imagery of humanity's development of writing through the ages. Frontispiece plate with captioned tissue guard: "Felise". Rough-cut deckled leaves very good, moderately toned; several leaves remain uncut and unopened. Bind good, square; hinges intact. Features eleven plates with blind-stamped borders, each with captioned tissue. Partial page imagery and decoration by Harry Clarke throughout. Near very good first edition of fine book craftsmanship. First edition with the Harry Clarke illustrations. Frontispiece, and ten full plate illustrations, with additional vignettes running throughout. Large 8vo. Original purple cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, front cover centrally stamped in gilt with one of Harry Clarke's designs, dust jacket. London, Bodley Head. A very good copy, the dust jacket with some light wear, a few small tears, and chips to the head of the spine panel. The front board and spine a little age toned. Ownership signature to front fly leaf, and top corner creased on that page. Very light spotting along the top edge, and occasionally to the text block. .
