These many and carefully selected color illustrations serve to underscore the Author s compelling story about the painting techniques of the Old Masters. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The flexible boards are still bright and glossy with some very light scuffing to the finish. The book is canted a bit to the right. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. The binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

The recipient was the gallerist and art dealer Richard Salmon, who worked in collaboration with Karsten Schubert, shaping the foundation of Britart. Hockney elaborates on his theories about how some of Western art's most famous masterpieces, paintings by artists such as da Vinci, Caravaggio, Velázquez, and Van Eyck were actually created. His answer leads to fascinating insights into the history of art, that many of the world's most revered artists used mirrors and various optical devices such as the camera obscura to project images onto their canvasses and then traced the scenes.
