paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that… encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Ex Library (Baltimore County Public Library.) Last checked out from the Towson Area Branch on April 25, 1985. F. Scott Fitzgerald (Revised Edition) by Kenneth Eble Kenneth Eble's Revised Edition of his classic 1963 study brings fresh insights and updated research to one of America's mo…st beloved modernist writers. Key features include: Expanded Biography: Eble integrates newly discovered letters and archival material to deepen our understanding of Fitzgerald's personal struggleshis fraught marriage to Zelda, bouts of alcoholism, and quest for status in both New York and Hollywood. Reassessed Criticism: Building on his original readings, Eble offers revised analyses of Fitzgerald's major worksfrom This Side of Paradise and The Great Gatsby to Tender Is the Nighthighlighting their evolving reception and the author's shifting narrative techniques. New Preface and Epilogue: The author reflects on Fitzgerald's posthumous reputation, the resurgence of his popularity in late 20th-century scholarship, and how modern perspectives on gender, class, and the American Dream reshape our reading of his novels and short stories. Thematic Threads: Eble emphasizes recurring motifsillusion versus reality, wealth and corruption, the passage of timeand situates Fitzgerald within the broader Jazz Age milieu, showing how his lyrical style captures both the era's glamour and its underlying anxieties. Literary Context: Placing Fitzgerald alongside contemporaries like Hemingway and Eliot, the study examines his contributions to modernist form and his influence on subsequent generations of writers. Clear, engaging, and richly documented, this Revised Edition remains an essential guide for students and fans seeking a concise yet authoritative portrait of Fitzgerald's life, art, and enduring legacy.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A first edition of Kenneth Eble's influential mid-century study of F. Scott Fitzgerald, issued as volume 36 in Twayne's United States Authors Series. Published during the formative period of Fitzgerald's academic rehabilitation, this work helped soli…dify serious critical attention to both the novels and the short fiction. TUSAS volumes became standard reference texts in university and preparatory-school curricula. The book is structurally Fine: bright blue cloth, sharp corners, strong gilt stamping, and tight binding. The interior is clean overall but contains pencil underlining and marginal marks throughout, indicating sustained academic use. The front flyleaf bears a clear institutional provenance stamp: 'Douglas I. Smink, Jr., Governor Dummer Academy, Byfield, Massachusetts 019.' Governor Dummer Academy (founded 1763; now The Governor's Academy) is one of the oldest preparatory schools in the United States, adding appealing academic provenance. This stamp identifies the book as belonging to Douglas I. Smink, Jr., an American English teacher and accomplished musician who taught at the American College for Girls in Istanbul (now part of Robert College). Smink held graduate degrees from Duke University (M.A.T.) and Middlebury College (M.A. in English), and studied music at Berklee College of Music. Throughout his career he directed jazz ensembles at Worcester Academy, Governor Dummer Academy, and Holton-Arms School, and performed widely in both the United States and Turkey. This volume therefore represents a working text from the library of an internationally active educator whose career bridged American literary instruction and professional-level music performance abroad - a compelling piece of transatlantic academic history. Dust jacket is Very Good, unclipped, with moderate edge wear including small chips at spine ends, light rubbing, and a faint circular stain to the upper front panel. The interior jacket series list shows pencil check marks and underlining - apparently tracking 'wish list' or acquisition titles within the Twayne series, a revealing artifact of mid-century institutional book ordering practices. Jacket remains complete and presents well. A solid scholarly copy with authentic academic history. Kenneth Eble (1923-1987) was a prominent American literary critic and professor at the University of Utah. His scholarship on American realism and 19th-century fiction contributed to the mid-20th-century revival of Fitzgerald's reputation, helping to establish Fitzgerald as a central figure in American literary studies.
