Hardcover. Condition: VG for Age. No Jacket. Dark blind-stamped cloth with gilt spine lettering, in acetate wraparound sleeve as acquired, clean and unworn. 170 + 182, pub. lists to paste-downs and end-papers, pagination includes 3 t.p.'s (1866-1867, 1870-1871 first section, 1870-1871 second). The 1867-1868 part is a 'second rep…rint', the 1870-1871 apparently 1st ed.; generally clean and tight, unmarked bar the odd tanning spot, rear end-paper chipped (nibbled?) to bottom outer corner. An important series which continued after this, contributors including many eminent authorities in different disciplines on subjects as varied as spectroscopy, prehistory and marine life, plus, for some odd reason in the second series, Charles Dickens.
