French archaeologist Jean-Francois Champollion spent many years deciphering the symbols of the Rosetta stone, and his work produced an important breakthrough in the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Three scripts appear on The Stone, the bottom section in Greek, the center in demotic, and the top in hieroglyphs. The three scripts contained the same text, allowing the hieroglyphs to be translated. Includes 31 page illustrated booklet with text by Carol Andrews, who works in the Egyptian Antiquities department of the British Museum. In original red box.
