The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. There is an inked previous owner's name on the front endpaper, and again on the front free page. The dust jacket has several small edge nicks, tears, and spots of rubbing and wear, along with edge chips missing to the spine ends, especially the top front spine joint . The spine of the book is somewhat sunned. "In 1919, Hillyer described himself as "a conservative and religious poet in a radical and blasphemous age." In 1934, he received a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book The Collected Verse of Robert Hillyer. His work is in meter and often rhyme and he tended to write about death, love and nature.
