Im Jahr 1835 wurde er der Direktor des neu eröffneten physikalischen Instituts. Im Jahr 1843 wurde er Professor für Naturphilosophie und Anthropologie an der Leipziger Universität; dieses Amt hatte er bis zu seinem Tode inne. 1846 war er Mitbegründer der Königlich Sächsischen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften zu Leipzig. Fechner gilt als Begründer der Psychophysik, die eine Beziehung zwischen Objekt, dem physikalischem Reiz und der Sinnesempfindung (Perzept) herstellt. Im Jahr 1855 verhalf er mit seinem Werk Atomenlehre der Atomistik zum Durchbruch.- Vorsatzbl. mit kl. Bes.-Stempel, Innendeckel mit kl. Buchhandels-Schildchen (F.
