Deckeltitel, graufarbiger Kopfschnitt, Vorsatz mit überklebtem Besitzeintrag, Schnitt gering braunfleckig, sonst in gutem Zustand. Dt. EA. Frederick Cook (1865-1940), amerikanischer Arzt und Forschungsreisender. Behauptete, am 21. April 1908 gemeinsam mit zwei Eskimos den Nordpol errreicht zu haben - also fast ein Jahr vor seinem Kontrahenten Robert Peary. Cook verkündete seinen Anspruch lediglich vier Tage vor Peary. Eindeutige Beweise blieb er jedoch schuldig (vgl. Arktis-Antarktis. Katalog Ausstellung, Bonn 1997/98). Dr. Cook schrieb sein Buch "Rückkehr vom Pol" handschriftlich nieder. Er begann die Niederschrift 1930 und vollendete sie 1935 im Alter von 70 Jahren (Vorwort). Die Erstausgabe erschien posthum (New York 1951).
