Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A strong Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1965. 'The Return of Pogo' , by the great Walt Kelly, in its stated-first-printing form. Octavo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 192 pp. Very Good; some age-toning and marks at covers, otherwise without flaw. Really, almost near fine. See all scans. A scion of Walt Disney Studios in the animation division, Kelly didn't create his timeless life opus, Pogo, until he later went to work for Dell Comics. Pogo became something of a vehicle-of-genius for Kelly's "sophisticated wit and slapstick physical comedy in a heady mix of allegory, Irish poetry, literary whimsy, puns and wordplay, lushly detailed artwork and broad burlesque humor", not to mention meaningfully placed nonsense, such as his famous Christmas Carol,"Deck us all with Boston Charlie; Walla Walla Wash., and Kalamazoo! Nora's freezin' on the trolley; Swaller dollar cauliflower Alleygaroo"). Of 'The Return of Pogo' The Harvard Crimson admired his "universal and perfectly justified skepticism about mostly everything'. Scarce as the first printing, and in this notably better than average condition. See all scans. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course - not a bag. L4.
