Signed by the author on the half title page. Gwen Leys, (1910-2002), was born in the Canal Zone where her father, Vice-Admiral James F. Leys, was stationed with the U.S. Navy. In 1937, after living in several port cities and in England, and attending college in New York, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky upon her marriage to John Andrews Davenport, a business executive. Her third novel was the popular BELVEDERE, which was the basis for three movies, and a television series. This, her second novel, is about a world famous actress, who, in old age, comes back to the Maine coast where she was born, and scandalizes the neighborhood with her unconventional life style.
