Edition originale de cette réplique aux deux comptes-rendus hostiles dressés par La Chalotais sur la Compagnie de Jésus en 1761 et en 1762. Elle fut commandée au Père Griffet (1698-1771) par ses supérieurs, et forme l'une des meilleures défenses de l'institut menacé. Avec les autres écrits composés à cette époque avec les PP. de Menoux, Berthier et de La Tour, elle donna au Parlement de Paris l'occasion d'exercer sur lui sa vindicte : le religieux fut banni du royaume, et dut s'exiler à Bruxelles, où il finit ses jours.
