First enlarged edition, early printing of the autobiography of the Russian-American aviation pioneer and designer of the first viable American helicopter. Octavo, original cloth, frontispiece, illustrated with black and white photographs. In fine condition. Russianâ"American aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky's first success came with the S-2, the second aircraft of his design and construction. His fifth airplane, the S-5, won him national recognition as well as F.A.I. license number 64. In 1939, Sikorsky designed and flew the Vought-Sikorsky VS-300, the first viable American helicopter, which pioneered the rotor configuration used by most helicopters today. He was inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 1966.

Very slight spotting to lower right front cover and top of spine (both about 1/2"or less). Internally, Gen. W. B. Bunker's bookplate is pasted down to the front end paper. Internally nice and clean, slight toning to rear end papers. Dust jacket is in one piece, though barely. Larger chips to the top and bottom of spine as well as much smaller to the rear of the dust jacket. Jacket is split about halfway up from the bottom on the front hinge. Inscription by Sikorsky "To General "Bill" Butler with kindest personal regards", dated Nov. 11, 1958 (Veterans Day). Also laid in is a letter from E. E. Gustafson, on Sikorsky Aircraft letterhead, mentioning to Gen. Butler that "as you know, he is very fond of you."
