Some shelf wear to edges and tips, slight toning to spine, and upper wrap lightly creased to corners. Contemporary Dutch artist herman de vries (1931-) is a known for his drawings and installations. The random drawings were created in de Vries' first years as a full-time artist, after he moved to Eschenau, Germany. Deriving from the organising principles of chance and probability, lines, stripes, fields, dots, circles acquire their place in the composition through chance. He defines his art, without figuration or colour, as 'informal'.

Folding card folio annotated in black pen '"random shapes" herman de vries v72-64, A-J' includes the Dutch publisher Frits Bless's blue handstamp to inside, dated in blue pen below '5 - III - 75'. Inside, the card folio contains an opaque envelope of de Vries's 'random shapes' made from white card; a sheet printed black and white, folded twice with biographic information about Herman de Vries and an A4 type-printed sheet with information about the exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam which ran from 7 February - 6 April, 1975. Condition: toning to edges of card folio, minor crease to edge of recto card folio, inside contents in near fine condition, no tears or creases.
