First Edition
Paperback. Condition: Very Good. New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1967. x, 47, 70, 63, 62, 67, 51, 64, 78, 36, 5 pp. 28 x 21.5 cm. Stiff marigold colored paper wrappers with illustration and lettering in black. Some sunning and rubbing to spine, with light rubbing and light soil to covers. Diagonal crease to bottom corner of front cover. Some mild to moderate soil to edges of text block. Some bracketing in pencil on five pages of the first chapter, otherwise interior is clean and unmarked. Binding sound, but with some mild creasing to spine. This book is the fourth of five volumes in the Berkeley Physics Course. The course was brought about by a National Science Foundation grant following the Soviet Union's successful launch of Sputnik in 1957. This preliminary edition was released four years before the official first edition, and would have been used for a course that lasted the duration of one semester. Due to the urgency felt after being surpassed by the Soviet space program, the US government funded this series, which was developed close to the time that The Feyman Lectures on Physics were being published by Addison-Wesley. . Soft Cover. Very Good.
