Second edition, second printing. Illustrated with three hundred and sixty-seven images, including one folding plate to each volume. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive history of typography based on a series of lectures delivered as part of a course on the Technique of Printing in the Graduate School of Business Administration of Harvard University, between 1911 and 1916. With commentary on the invention of printing, the Latin alphabet and its development, types of different countries during the fifteenth century, the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries, and much more. Written by Daniel Berkeley Updike, an American printer and historian of typography. Previously held in the library of Gerald E. Cinamon, an American book designer who was Penguin Books" main designer of arts and architecture titles, becoming its chief designer in the mid-1970s. He was considered one of the most skilled designers of his generation. With a letter from Michael Denton of Denton Antiques, London, thanking Cinamon for the lending of this set. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spines with the odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with minor age toning to the extremities. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.

Several marks, including an ink stain to the top edge of the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Very bright and clean with light spotting mainly contained to first and last few pages. Good. book.
