First Edition
First edition. Royal octavo. 59 pages. Cloth-backed boards with title label on front. Designed and printed by Sebastian Carter. The book was originally to be published by The Book Club of California, but objections were raised by Sanford Berger, the Book Club's President, to certain elements in the author's text, viz ''intemperate language with regard to Morris's prose style'': ''I think it must have been my unrepentant distaste for Morris's romantic prose, which caused a change of heart at the Book Club of California. As Sebastian Carter had been invited by the Book Club to print the piece, it seemed both natural and delightful to complete this minor project with the help of his sympathetic approach.''Out of a total of 505 copies this is one 450 numbered and printed on Hahnemuhle mould-made paper.Fine. Not issued in dustwrapper.
