Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. London, Hamish Hamilton Medical Books in conjunction with William Heinemann Medical Books Ltd, 1944 (second edition)/ 1943. Octavo, xvi, 391 pages with some 136 illustrations (many from photographs). Cloth a little sunned about the spine; volume a little canted; slight wear to one corner; a few other minor signs of age and use; a very good copy. Catalan orthopaedic surgeon Josep Trueta's 'closed method' for treating open wounds and fractures involved debridement followed by immobilisation in a plaster cast, and was widely used during the Second World War. Provenance: With the bookplate, ownership signature and acquisition details of eminent Australian neurosurgeon Professor Donald Simpson AO (1927-2018).
