The cloth binding is rubbed and dull, the hinges cracked and weak, the spine is peeling. The hand coloured folding frontispiece is browning in the margin. There is some slight browning throughout, one plate has a tear without loss. Illustrated, 311.

Fourth Ed. dated 1853 on Preface Notes, Hard Cover blue embossed cloth bds, nice faded gilt pattern to spine, a bit faded and rubbed at extrem.s, otherwise Good, gilt to pge edge blocks, contents clean and tight, v. occas. age-marks, pp311 + further titles by the author, neat inscript. to ffep top part of which is cut out, nice fold-out colour frontis., further b/w plates.

An interesting historical work written to reconcile the difficulties between new findings in geology and scripture. In original decorative red cloth binding with gilt titles. With folding hand coloured section of 'a portion of the earth's crust'; title page; prefaces to each edition; explanation of the frontispiece; contents listing; text; appendix; index and glossary. With 8 black and white plates and illlustrations in the text. The binding is complete but shaken with rubbing to top and bottom of spine and corners. It is slightly grubby but has been protected by a wrapper. The front endpaper has split at the joint and has half a pasted label on the reverse of the front board and some small ink marking. The rear endpaper is also split at the joint and it looks as if another label has been removed. Contents are generally clean with occasional brown spotting. Some page edges have been turned over.
