Hardcover. Condition: Good. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. This book deals with the principles of atomic physics and electronics to G.C.E. Advanced and Special standards, and covers generally the modern physics syllabus of the examining boards. No attempt has been made to include details of laboratory experiments, which will be found in practical sources listed at the back of the book. The text is an expansion of earlier work by the author, but as it necessarily provides only an introduction to the subjects, further details must be obtained from the references given at the end.The book begins with the forces on electrons and ions in electric and magnetic fields, and the energy of these particles. Radioactivity and the atomic nucleus are then discussed, and there is an account of the principles of mass spectrometers, detectors of ionizing particles and radiations, and nuclear energy. This is followed by consideration of the electrons round the nucleus (the extra-nuclear atom), with sections on energy levels, optical spectra, the laser principle, X-rays, and the wave-particle aspect. The final chapters contain an introduction to the principles of diode and triode valves and the cathode-ray oscillograph, and to semiconductors and transistors in view of their importance. For the convenience of readers familiar with one system, formulae are given in both c.g.s. and m.k.s. units, illustrative numerical examples in the text are performed with both units, and, where necessary, the numerical values in the exercises and answers are given in both c.g.s. and m.k.s. units.
