Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a concise yet practical guide to blowpipe analysis with a quantitative assaying section specfically designed for the 'blowpipe furnace', a technique typically omitted from other contemporary texts on the subject. The author presents a simplified method of conducting quantitative assays with greater accuracy than old coal-crucible methods. Blowpipe analysis, a valuable technique in the field, allows for the detection of specific elements within minerals to determine their composition and nature with only a small sample. This allows for the rapid characterization of a mineral specimen in the absence of laboratory facilities. Furthermore, because the author has extensive experience teaching blowpipe analysis, this guide includes the practical know-how that is often only acquired from years of experience in laboratories. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. This 4.125 x 6.625 inch, 142 page hardcover book is the actual original copy of this title with the 1898 date on the title page and the notation -First Edition First Thousand- on the title page. This item has a time-worn black leather soft cover with gilt titling on the spine which is still bright and fully legible. The cover shows spotting and wear at the edges and corners but the binding is still firm. The interior shows some water-staining to the inside end-papers but the text pages show no such staining. This copy shows a previous owner's small inked name on a front end-paper and then the text block is in very good condition with some signs of apparent use over the years - - with the corners a touch bent - - but all in all the text is clean of markings and features numerous sketches of items used in assaying - - and then extensive explanation for testing. A rare item in good condition. 142 pages.
