The interior text bloc is clean, especially for… a cookbook. Ink name/address to ffep otherwise unmarked. The binding is tight and square, hinges are uncracked. Blank endpaper at back, removed. Tough, cloth binding seems to have been laquered. This has reduced kitchen/handing soiling, however, the cloth does show moderate soiling. Scans available & recommended. A very interesting volume that has more than just recipies, including medicine, coloring and bleaching fabric, dress making at home, hints for the sick-room, and so much more! Some of the household hints are bizarre by today's standards, such as "To preserve milk: A spoonful of grated h…orse-radish will keep a pan of milk sweet for days" (page 466). This scarce title is selling for upwards of $200 on eBay in terrible condition. This book is impossible to find in very good condition because it appears that the publisher PAINTED these covers instead of staining the cloth. Over the years, paper, cloth, dirt, dust or even other books have stuck to these books forever marring the covers. Inside THIS book, the pages are mostly clean, with a few stains from use while cooking, and a few pages and back cover separating from the binding, but still attached. THIS volume is the revised edition from 1881 and the first hundred and ten thousandth copy. Later editions reached over 300,000 copies. Few remain. Hard cover edition.
