Vol 1 professionally re-bound using original materials & orig marbled eps. Brown cloth over bds, 3/4 brown leather w/ burgundy title blocks & bright gilt lettering on spines, 5 raised bands. Marbled edges & eps. P/O's modest notes & stamps on first few (generally blank) pages, & hand-written gift inscription, signature & date (1886) hand-written on ffep vol 1. Exteriors volumes 2 & 3 scuffed & rubbed. Inside rear pastedown, rfep & last few pages of vol 3 with mdt cosmetic damage & dampstaining, but no warping or wrinkling, and barely penetrates to last couple of pages of text. All 3 vols extensively illustrated in b&w w/ upwards of 5,000 engravings. Foldouts present & intact. A fascinating & instructive set, rarely seen complete. 2831 total pages.
