Seller: The Idea of the Book, Portland, OR, U.S.A.
Large softcover 8vo in printed wraps offset printed in black and white. Unpaginated. Text in French, with an English translation of the Post Script essay. Inscribed in French by the artist in green ink on title page. Much like Bory's other work, this suite of 13 chapters explores the visual aspect of language and pushes the idea of what a book can be through concrete poetry and the manipulation of texts, images, and collages. The Post Script essay at the end (also translated into English) is a powerful manifesto on the role of the book in our society and its unrealized potential: "Each visual book is a key book, a method, somewhat like the first page of an inventory. Therefore, with new books, the reader will begin to read his own text, his environment-text into which he will (be) permanently plunged. And so the endless reading begins." "The book that explore space, that is at the same time always open and always closed. Page after page. The books behind us are dead. The pages ahead are not yet born." Very good with light sunning and reading crease along spine, trace amounts of rubbing to covers, bumps to corners, and trace amounts of age toning along extremities of text block.
