Few tiny soil spots near head of frt gutter, and a stray mark on the fep fore-edge, else clean. No names or tears in the tight crisp 176pp text that is well illustrated with thirty-two photogravures and numerous line drawings by the author. Original, un-clipped beige background dust wrapper illustrated with black titles and nine b/w vignettes on beige background shows light, even handling soil, a pencil name at head of frt flap and a bit of color loss at tips from storage but no chips or tears. Jacket now in new mylar and shows very well. Coming from a long line of country squires as he has done, horses and the drawing of horses have been the double passion of John Board's life. Following a childhood and youth spent in the spacious England of Edwardian days, he started his career as a tea-planter in Ceylon. This was interrupted by the advent of the First German War in which he spent four years in 'the insalubrious Struma Valley'. Following this War, he became a member of 'The Times' sporting staff, and for thirty years he had been continuously connected with that paper. It was in this capacity that he had been associated with the revival of Polo and of Show Jumping that has been so happy a feature of the post-war world. His concluding chapters tell the inner story of this revival and of the Olympic triumph in which is culminated.
