The volume includes the long poetic drama titled "The Saint's Tragedy: or, The True Story of Elizabeth of Hungary, Saint of the Romish Calendar, " which also includes a preface by Rev. F.D. Maurice, M.A. and an introduction by the author. Prior owners name in neat script on free front endpaper dated July 1856. Lower corners and tail show mild shelf wear. Stain on title page and a feww end papers, foxing to paste downs. Text block itslef is generally clean if tanned. A first edition copy of Charles Kingsley's anthology Andromeda and Other Poems.Charles Kingsley was a broad church priest of the Church of England, poet and social reformer with Andromeda being one of his best known poems. This anthology includes Andromeda, songs and ballads, poems connected with 1848-9 and a collection of Kingsley's early poems. Some of the poems included in the volume are The Starlings, The Night Bird and A Hope.With a bookplate for Percival F. Hinton, who was a local historian and scholar of Birmingham with a keen interest in poetry, to the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some fading to the spine and some light marks to the boards. Some light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. With a bookplate for Moutlon Grange to the front pastedown and for Percival F. Hinton. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good. book.

It is rubbed around the edges and with some general staining and marking. the hinge side of the box is marked and slightly bubbled. Still a very good attractive piece of Victorian book production and a great survival.
