Later printing of the first edition. Original 1948 date still appears on the title page; the book went rapidly through multiple printings. This copy was printed in August, 1950. Cloth with dust wrapper. Title in a bar on the spine of the binding. Price of 3s 6d printed on the face of the wrapper. Fine copy in very near fine dust wrapper with very slight wear to the surface of the spine panel. Gowers' guide cutting through the thickets of overwriting and officialese went through several later versions. Very scarce in this edition and in this superlative condition.
