Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated Edition. VG book. John Leech engravings. Orig front/back panels & spine bound in @ back. TEG. Riviere SIGNED the elaborate gilt turn ins SIGNED "Bound by Riviere & Son" on the turn in. Riviere bindings before 1880 did not include the word "Son". Board edges ruled in gilt. Gilt dotted…raisd ribs. Spine panels with elaborate floral design. Bottom rear tip worn thru to underlying board. 1/4" chip out of lower spine corner. Top edge gilt bright as new, other two clean as new. FINE inside but for occassional spot of light foxing. Book stays closed when stood on its spine. This seems to be the most elaborate binding Riviere used for these books. See same book in BIBLIO for more scans. Very Good book. 1st illus ed. Red morroco with fancy gilt. 13 hand colored engravings. (illustrator).
