The Hermit Club, a meeting place for professionals with a passion for the arts, was founding in Cleveland in 1904. It was fashioned after the famous, similarly devoted Lamb's Club of New York (the oldest theatrical social club in the country). It was started by architect Frank B. Meade. The club quickly became a hub for musical performances including the Original Fadette Jazz Orchestra and location-specific shows set in other parts of the country as well as Spain, Mexico and Africa. The Hermit Club still functions today, with about 100 members, in the building it occupied in 1928.
