Small 4to. Second impression (December 1938). First impression in October 1938. Original yellow cloth printed in pink. Illustrated by the author. Something small has gnawed through the jacket and cloth at the foot of the spine. Author's ink presentation on the flyleaf. Unclipped d/w is faded on the spine and with tears to the front panel which have been repaired with paper tape on the reverse. Contents clean. Good in good d/w. By-pass Variegated, Pseudish, Bankers Georgian, Stockbrokers Tudor, Wimbledon Transitional and many other architectural styles are skewered by the artist. Inscribed, 'To Norah from Osbert Lancaster, Corsham 10/2/39'. The recipient was Norah Lindsay (1873-1948), socialite and garden designer. Her work added to Cliveden, Faringdon, Port Lympne, Blickling Hall, Kelmarsh Hall and Hidcote Manor, amongst many others. A nice copy except for the nibbled spine.
