Hardback, undated but circa 1890 and contains gift inscription from 1891, published by Cassell & Company, Limited, London, xlviii + 415 pages + 8-page publisher catalogue at rear. Copiously illustrated and containing coloured frontispiece. Octavo/8vo, measures around 8 3/4" by 11" by 1 1/2". Red cloth binding with blind-stamped decoration and pictorial detail, black and faded gilt detail and lettering to front board and spine. Marking and scuffing to binding with many signs of wear, rubbing at edges and on hinges. Tearing to head and tail of spine, board edges and corners, which are bumped. Slackness to binding, cracking to full extent of inner hinges with netting exposed, though book contents reasonably firm. Page edges red-coloured, somewhat marked, scuffed and damp stained. Gift inscription to verso of front free endpaper. Some marking to page surfaces but no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information. xlviii + 415 pp. Circa 1890. n.
