Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. ILLUSTRATED (illustrator). NICE LOOKING GREEN COVER, GOLD DESIGN AND PRINT FRONT AND SPINE, SOME FADING FRONT AND SPINE. CIRCA 1880, NO DATE LISTED. BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK THROUGHOUT. TIGHT AND CLEAN. Peveril of the Peak (1823) is the longest novel by Sir Walter Scott. Along with Ivanhoe, Kenilworth, and Woodstock this is one of the English novels in the Waverley novels series, with the main action taking place around 1678 in the Peak District, the Isle of Man, and London, and centring on the Popish Plot. Redgauntlet (1824) is a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott, one of the Waverley novels, set primarily in Dumfriesshire, southwest Scotland, in 1765, and described by Magnus Magnusson (a point first made by Andrew Lang) as "in a sense, the most autobiographical of Scott's novels." It describes a plot to start a fictional third Jacobite Rebellion, and includes "Wandering Willie's Tale", a famous short story which frequently appears in anthologies. The Betrothed (1825) is one of the Waverley novels by Sir Walter Scott. Set in the Welsh Marches in the 12th century it is the first of two Tales of the Crusaders, the second being The Talisman. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.

Hardcover. Condition: Good to Very Good. No Jacket. WAVERLEY NOVELS 48 VOLS COMPLETE by SIR WALTER SCOTT, BART pub by ADAM AND CHARLES BLACK; 1877; EDINBURGH; CLOTH BINDINGS; GOOD TO VERY GOOD 48 volume complete illustrated set 1877 - 1879. This is an unusual set, in the original purple / red boards with the publisher's original white printed paper labels to the spine. It's not common to see a complete set in the original format like this, since most copies were rebound with the original bindings discarded. There is some rubbing and marking to the boards, and the spines are occasionally sunned, but the joints are strong and the hinges aren't cracked. The pages are extremely bright white, and clean throughout. Each vol is 18cm high, 13cm across the boards. The set stretches 155cm along the shelf. There is mottling and marks to some boards, but overall, it's all there in the original format, and it's this that makes them so unusual. There are engravings throughout and a pretty engraved frontispiece to each volume. In all, I'm quite fond of this set - a nice antiquarian collectable. The Waverley Novels are Sir Walter Scott's lasting legacy to the world of literature. Scott invented the historical novel format and in his day his novels propelled him to a level of stardom that would be seen again in the 20th Century dedicated to rock stars. Every Victorian gentleman had a set of his works on their shelves, but finding a complete set these days in decent condition is becoming increasingly tough. These look great on the shelf, and in the right library setting will really enhance your collection. Ideal for the lover of Victoriana, English Literature, Scottish related items, engravings and antiquarian books. Great. The titles here in the complete set are: 1.WAVERLEY - I; 2.WAVERLEY - II; 3.GUY MANNERING - I; 4. GUY MANNERING - II; 5.THE ANTIQUARY - I; 6.THE ANTIQUARY - II; 7. ROB ROY - I; 8. ROB ROY - II; 9.
