Levi was a survivor of Auschwitz, and would publish several books after he returned home to Italy. This is one of his best-known books, and ties together his career as a chemist and a writer. Some of his experiences from the Holocaust are reflected in this work. This work was voted the Best Science Book by the Royal Institution of Great Britain in 2006. The jacket's front panel has two small wrinkles.
