Passion by Georges Rouault "Passion" (1962) is the exhibition catalog for a show of 54 paintings from Georges Rouault's acclaimed Passion series, held at the Valley House Gallery in Dallas, Texas, from November 15 to December 31, 1962. It was published in both English and French editions, with an introduction by Robert de Bolli, and runs 59 pages. This copy is in English. Key facts: • The paintings were the originals from which Rouault's woodcuts were made to illustrate his 1939 book Passion (published by Ambroise Vollard), created between 1930 and 1939. • After Vollard's death in 1939, the works were kept in a vault until 1962, when the Vollard estate granted owner Donald Vogel permission to open the vault and exhibit them — one of the most important shows in the gallery's history. • The series depicts the Crucifixion, and the paintings were later valued at around $2 million. This copy is in excellent condition and would be listed as "like new" if it did not have two small stains on the front cover.
